22238 Secret Weapon Foods for boosting your weight loss! »
Of course the foundation for successful weight loss is eating well and exercising, but if you want to power up your efforts, check out this diet cheat sheet of foods that do a little of the work for you. Research shows that these 8 secret-weapon foods can help you lose weight.
1. MUSHROOMS!!
Research reports that when people ate mushroom-based entrees, they felt just as satisfied as when they’d eaten those same dishes made with beef—though they’d taken in a fraction of the calories and fat.
2. EGGS!!
In one study, dieters who ate eggs for breakfast felt full for longer and lost more than twice as much weight as those who got the same amount of calories from a bagel for breakfast. Think beyond breakfast, too: eggs boost a salad’s staying power and make for a satisfying snack
3. APPLES!!
For a mere 95 calories, a medium apple contains 4 grams of fiber. And recent research, published in theJournal of Nutrition, suggests that boosting your fiber intake may help you to prevent weight gain—or even encourage weight loss.
4. LOW CALORIE DESSERTS
OK, so this isn’t exactly a “health food,” but we welcome the news that it may be easier to stick to your diet if it includes a little sweet treat. According to a new study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, banning sugary foods could lead to overeating. One reason may be that removing access to sweet foods stimulates the release of a molecule in your brain called corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), produced when you’re afraid, anxious or stressed, says Pietro Cottone, Ph.D., lead study author. And increased stress levels may lower your motivation to eat more nutritious foods, making it more likely that you’ll binge on junk food.
5.SOUP!!
Research published in the journal Appetite has shown that people who start a meal with vegetable soup eat 20 percent fewer calories over the course of their meal.
6. OATMEAL!!
Eating a breakfast made with “slow-release” carbohydrates, such as oatmeal or bran cereal, three hours before you exercise may help you burn more fat, suggests a recent study in the Journal of Nutrition. Here’s why: in the study, eating “slow-release” carbohydrates didn’t spike blood sugar as high as eating refined carbohydrates, such as white toast. In turn, insulin levels didn’t spike as high and because insulin plays a role in signaling your body to store fat, having lower levels may help you burn fat. Want options beyond oatmeal?
7. HOT CHILE PEPPERS!!
In one study, consuming a little hot pepper (in tomato juice or in capsules) 30 minutes before a meal helped study participants feel less hungry and eat about 10 percent less.
8. ALMONDS!!
Chew more to curb hunger. That’s what researchers concluded in a recent study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in which they asked participants to chew a 2-ounce serving of almonds 10, 25 or 40 times. Participants got maximum satisfaction—they felt fuller longer—from the nuts when they chewed 40 times. Chewing more may cause a greater release of fat from the almonds, which triggers hormones that curb hunger, speculates Rick Mattes, Ph.D., R.D., professor of foods and nutrition at Purdue University, study author and an EatingWell advisor.

Fruits
Grapefruit: Want to ingest fewer calories during meal time? Eating half a grapefruit prior to gathering around the dinner table can help fill you up enough to where you are able to resist that second helping of tortellini. The plentiful amounts of soluble fiber in grapefruit slow down the digestion process.
Watermelon: Everyone has experienced the stuffed feeling that comes from this colorful fruit. The water invades the space that your stomach leaves open for food, thus making you less likely to pig out. Apples and pears produce a similar result, too.
Berries: If Hollywood still made horror films based around foods, The Attack of the Killer Sweet Tooth could easily be the name of a new thriller. Instead of allowing yourself to succumb to the temptation of a cookie, pop some blackberries or strawberries into your mouth. Frozen blueberries also provide the illusion of enjoying a cold, high-calorie treat (step away from the Häagen-Dazs!).
Veggies
Cucumber:Refreshing and crunchy, is there anything better? Cucumber has very few calories and helps to stave off liver disease and pancreatic cancer, and even keeps your nails looking amazing due to the high mineral content. Keep a few slices in the fridge for a nourishing bite!
Hot peppers: Although they haven’t been directly linked to weight loss, spicy habaneros or jalapeños aid in curbing the desire to gorge since we typically eat less when our food has a fiery flavor. Hot peppers also comprise the compound capsaicin, which speeds up the metabolism.
Celery: If you’re a self-proclaimed snacker, celery will be your best friend. Not only does it satisfy the need to eat something, but it has virtually no calories (one cup of celery equals a measly nineteen calories). Tip: instead of adding cream cheese or peanut butter to the stalk, give fat-free cottage cheese or fat-free black bean dip a go!
Protein
Greek yogurt: Some of us can’t stand traditional yogurt, but when it’s this thick and creamy we will race down to our favorite market just to stock up on it. Besides its wonderful texture, Greek yogurt “keeps you satisfied longer,” according to sports nutritionist Leslie Bonci, MPH, RD, because all proteins take their sweet time leaving your stomach.
Eggs:Start the day off right with seven grams of protein! Having an egg in the morning will keep your body busy because digesting eggs burns more calories than a carb-infested breakfast.
Fish: It has been engrained in our brains that fish is full of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. But did you know that wild salmon, tuna, and sardines all make your body more responsive to the fat-burning hormone leptin, which is responsible for suppressing your appetite? If you won’t eat fish, turkey can also help you ditch the extra pounds, as it encourages the release of tryptophan, which helps you sleep. Remember: lack of sleep wreaks havoc on your waistline!

345My two cents:
- I would rather eat bananas until I get sick than drink a glass of pus, blood, drugs, bleach, and antibiotics to get my potassium. This ad is really suggesting processed over natural? Really you’re doing that?
- Same with the calcium - you’re trying to tell me to drink a glass of mother’s milk that the calf had to die not to receive rather than eat spinach? An interesting tidbit for you - the animal amino acids in milk are leeching the calcium from your bones. It is NOT a reliable source of calcium whatsoever.
- If you need vitamin D badly enough that you need to get it from the byproduct of a mother whose child the milk was made for never even got it, get out in the goddamn sunshine. Other sources of vitamin D that are not cruel: mushrooms, yeast, and oh hey, it’s supplemented in almost all your soy products!
- Did you know exposure to light destroys riboflavin? Interesting that most milks don’t come in light-block bottles. Even if your milk did, you could get plenty of B2 (riboflavin) from vegan sources: leafy greens, legumes, almonds, tomatoes, yeast, mushrooms - and it’s supplemented all over the place. Trust me, you get plenty.
- Know how much vitamin A I get a day?80-110% every day. How? I EAT RAW VEGETABLES AND FRUITS. How much milk do I drink? None. Did you know that ”Lowfat and skim milks are often fortified with vitamin A because it was removed from milk with the fat”? I’ll bet you didn’t. You really want your vitamin A to be sourced from extra milkfat you’re putting into your body?
- Phosphorus is an element OF THE EARTH. On FitDay.Com’s list of the top phosphorus-rich foods, 7 out of 9 were vegan.
Know what you’re talking about - know what you’re putting into your body. Advertisements won’t tell you the truth, because the truth about milk would have everyone running.
okay i dont know if this is true or not but still reblogging LOL
Milk is disgusting. End of story.
^It’s definitely true. I read this in so many different (credible) places.
